A lower meat diet is good for the EARTH

Save Fossil-Fuel

Animal protein requires 8 times as much fossil-fuel energy to produce than plant protein (2)

Save Water

1 lb of wheat requires 14 Gal of water to produce, as opposed to 1 lb of beef which requires 441 Gal (1)

Prevent Global Warming

A groundbreaking 2006 United Nations report found that raising animals for food generates more greenhouse gases than all the cars and trucks in the world combined (3)

Protect Endangered Species

In the United States, cattle grazing has contributed to the demise of 26% of federally threatened and endangered species (4)

Replenish the Earth

Chickpeas are a rotation crop to wheat and barley. They replenish nitrogen in the soil, reducing or eliminating the need for chemical fertillizers.

Vitamins and Nutrients

Our menu is full of whole grains and vegitables that contain vitamins and nutrients that keep you healthy

Help Prevent Heart Disease, Cancer and Diabetes

- Chickpeas, vegetables, and whole grains are very good sources for fiber. High fiber intake may be related to the prevention of many chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes and some types of cancer

- A diet rich in chickpeas is known to decrease blood glucose. This is beneficial for diabetics because a lower blood glucose level decreases insulin requirements

- The richest source of magnesium are in legumes (chickpeas), whole grains and some vegetables.  The average American gets too little magnesium from food.   This is important for everyone, but especially for people with heart disease and diabetes

- Chickpeas, contain generous amounts of Tannins. Tannins may protect the body against the development of cancer

- Chickpeas are a rich source of foliate.  10%-15% of all heart disease may be attributed to high amounts of homocystein in the blood, and foliate can reduce levels of homocystine

- Regular fruit and vegetable consumption may reduce the risk of ischemic heart disease

- A large body of scientific literature suggests that the consumption of a diet of whole grains, legumes (chickpeas), vegetables, nuts, and fruits, with the avoidance of meat and high-fat animal products, along with a regular exercise program is consistently associated with lower blood cholesterol levels, lower blood pressure, less obesity and consequently less heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, and mortality

-Chickpeas are a great source of protein
